Parem Hwah. What is in a name?

When I moved to Korea, my friends gave me a name that sounded close to my western name "Barrett". My new name was pronounced "Pah-rem"  which means "hope" or "wishes".

The word for "art" in both Chinese and Korean is pronounced "Hwah".

The name "Parem Hwah"  or "Hope Art" expresses the western and eastern connections in the artwork.

Mary Barrett Anders studied traditional  Korean and Chinese brushwork painting in Korea and in the United States. She has developed her own unique east-west style.

Ms. Anders studied French at Smith College and the Universite de Paris, Sorbonne. She also holds a Masters degree in Education.
